Nothing Just “Happens”

Well, I guess that isn’t true, so things do just “happen.” Like old age. It just happens, right. Of course you do have to exercise some semblance of sanity to make that happen. You know, like looking both ways before crossing the street, you know, stuff like that.

But other things … they don’t just  happen. It takes us.

Our house doesn’t clean itself. Ever. Right? Our clothes do not  magically wash themselves. Our car doesn’t refill itself with  fuel. Our books do not get written by themselves. Our goals do not just surprisingly get met.

Nope.

It takes us. Continue reading

I DID IT!!!

Seriously, I cannot begin to tell you how thrilled I am. I made it the entire length of the 60 Day Challenge I set for myself.

ALL THE WAY TO THE END!!!

60 days for myself

YAY ME!

Sometimes you just gotta stop for one second and be proud of yourself. Sometimes you gotta just pat yourself on the back and say YAY ME!

That’s where I am. However, I am absolutely not stopping here. I have set a Challenge for myself for the next 30 Days. AND I am joining with a friend for a series of 10 Day Challenges where we are pushing ourselves in one or two areas and holding each other accountable.

There is nothing like the feeling of success. Not. One. Thing.

Are you challenging yourself in an area right now? Please comment on this blog (below). Share it with the world. Make it public. It seems a little more real when you do.

I can’t wait to encourage you back.

Not quite halfway there

I’m not even half way through my 60 day challenge … but serious progress has been made.

How have I been doing on the whole “60 first day” thing? (You can read about that here.) Not fabulous. Not terrible.

When it is all said and done, that really isn’t bad, is it? Not bad, not great?

Somewhere in the middle is something to celebrate.

Somewhere in the middle means you are sticking with it. You aren’t so over-inspired that you might fizzle out, you aren’t so under-motivated that you don’t get up and work on it each day. Somewhere in the middle is safe from falling off the edge in either direction. It means you are focusing on forward, not anywhere else.

I have managed to re-inspire my motivation when it waned. I have stayed steady in my goals.

I am eating an 80-90% plant-based diet (kind of difficult to switch to that) and I am getting movement and sunshine every day. I also began juicing twice a day.

The result so far?

  • 7 pounds lost
  • 12 points down in my glucose level
  • BP completely normal
  • Dramatic improvement in my kidney

AMAZING!

Yes, it is work. Every single day. Work. Hustle. Try. Repeat.

But totally worth it.

Whatever your goal, your pursuit, your dream, you goals — stay the course. Every little thing you do counts. Every tiny step gets you closer. Stay the course.

I am anxious to see what day 60 will bring. I know anxious is rather a negative word. But that is what I am.

60 First Days

Whether it is a new challenge, hustle, dream, goal, or job; that first day is awesome. So much motivation. So much hope. So much commitment. Nothing but positive as far as your eye can see.

But the first day bliss wears off. Reality kind of sets in. The motivation becomes more gray tones than black and white. And that stinks because you really want to do this! Continue reading

Being Allowed To Help

You know what is a little thing? Saying the word “Yes” or “Sure” when someone offers to help.

It is such a little thing to allow someone the gift of doing something for you.

Yes, I am speaking from my heart here. I absolutely love doing stuff for people. It is part of what makes me me. And when someone is kind enough to just say “Yes,” that is a delight to the soul. Continue reading

The Enormity of Little Things

There were seven ladies sitting in the very cozy living of our pastor’s wife enjoying a Bible study and sharing our lives with one another. Extremely comfortable in each other’s presence, our guards were down.

We were bantering a subject back and forth, everyone chiming in, everyone voicing an opinion, everyone listening to the others. Then, suddenly, a dear friend, Eileen, said this phrase:

If only we understood the enormity of little things.

You were meant to be you

How many books, blog posts, sermons, and lectures have been written or spoken on the subject that you were meant to be you and only you? There is no one else like you. God made you to carry out the unique purpose for which you were created.

Those topics flood the airspace and blogosphere and pulpits.

Yet … Continue reading

Life is Complicated

My husband and I love to watch movies. We prefer it over TV without contest. But, when you watch movies on a regular basis, you get frustrated with the mediocrity that exists. You know, the over-use of catch phrases, the same film shot repeated over and over sometimes crossing genres with ease, the lazy dialogue.

This is our motto

This is our motto

What are you working on?

There should never be a time in our life when we are not working on something.

So, what are you working on right now?

Are you improving a skill? Learning a new one?

Strengthening your body? Finishing a home project?

Mastering a recipe? Trying to grow some veggies? Continue reading

Here I am …

In the South West. Far, far away from my little loves, my friends, all things familiar. It is crazy exciting (another word for exhausting) and beautiful (another word for gorgeous). But I miss my peeps.

I know God will fill that hole a bit when we are able to get involved and meet people, but they will never take the place of those that have filled my days and years for the past few decades. The laughs, the lessons, the lunches. The troubles, the teasing, the triumphs. The crying, the card games, the communion.

I miss it all.

I knew I would. That doesn’t shock me. But it doesn’t comfort me either.

Life takes turns and twists and we are on one of those (or both) at present. We love thinking about what we have in store. We are enjoying the “putting our new life together” phase. It is odd and fun.

But when I lay my head down at night I see the little faces that made my face light up daily. And my eyes leak.

My three stooges

My three stooges

But I know God will care of them as well. It never was up to me anyway. It’s all Him. And for that I am thankful and mindful to keep that perspective in tact.

I am ready for new experiences, but I hate leaving the old ones so far away. Yes, it is the typical cake-and-eat-it-too syndrome. Full force.

But we do it anyway, because it is what He has told us to do.

For all of you who read this who have been such a prized part of my history, I treasure you.

Are you feeling alone? Even in the midst of loved ones? It happens to everyone. Go to Him. He is there. Comment below with a smiley face, I’ll pray for you. Smiling through the discomfort is sometimes the only way to get to the other side.

Blessing those who have blessed me,

Pat Meyers
