ARCHIPPUS – who the heck is he?

I am reading through the Bible with a plan the church is using. It is kind of fun knowing we are all reading the same thing. I’ve done this before with a group in Illinois, and it was delightful when we got together and discussed it. Lovely.

Today, in my reading I came across the name Archippus. I’ve seen the name before and I guess just skipped right over it. My reading today was in Colossians. Paul says very simply in Colossians 4:17 And say to Archippus, “Take heed to the ministry which you have received in the Lord, that you may fulfill it.” Simple and profound. Continue reading

60 First Days

Whether it is a new challenge, hustle, dream, goal, or job; that first day is awesome. So much motivation. So much hope. So much commitment. Nothing but positive as far as your eye can see.

But the first day bliss wears off. Reality kind of sets in. The motivation becomes more gray tones than black and white. And that stinks because you really want to do this! Continue reading

The Enormity of Little Things

There were seven ladies sitting in the very cozy living of our pastor’s wife enjoying a Bible study and sharing our lives with one another. Extremely comfortable in each other’s presence, our guards were down.

We were bantering a subject back and forth, everyone chiming in, everyone voicing an opinion, everyone listening to the others. Then, suddenly, a dear friend, Eileen, said this phrase:

If only we understood the enormity of little things.

What is a “Small Thing”?

Have you heard the quote: “Be faithful in the small things”? Did you know it comes from the Bible? I’ve run into so many people  who didn’t know it was from the Bible. Luke 16:10 actually.

I have a question for you to ponder today:

What, exactly, is a small thing? Continue reading

What are you working on?

There should never be a time in our life when we are not working on something.

So, what are you working on right now?

Are you improving a skill? Learning a new one?

Strengthening your body? Finishing a home project?

Mastering a recipe? Trying to grow some veggies? Continue reading

Life Lessons Are All Around Us

Our life is made of lessons. Good lessons. Bad lessons. Some inspiring, some disheartening. We start learning these kinds of lessons before we can speak or answer a question. We continue on through school and to the end of our days.

Some days we learn what we want to add to our life, other days things we want to avoid at all cost.

A movie, a song, a sermon, a painting; all can speak to us in a moment that affects our inner being. If we let it.

There are words we read or hear that stick with us forever. Those words can jar our thinking, arrest our thoughts, and adjust our compass.

Words. Meanings. Messages. Perspectives. Opinions. Thoughts.

Things to ponder that change the very makeup of our person.

As one who ponders, this stuff is food for my soul.

One message from a movie has made me reconsider my goals. One line from a country song has stoked the flame of my passion for living a life of impact.

Let yourself be moved by what you hear and see. Settle your mind and take it in. You don’t have to keep it if you don’t want to, but let it in for a brief moment and ponder its message.

Be moved by the things you experience. It is a lovely, lovely thing.

What if we really did it?

What if we really did what the Bible said? Like … really.

For instance, when it says “Be anxious for nothing, but through prayer and supplication let your requests be made known to God.” (Phil. 4:6) What if we really did that?

Instead of worrying.

Instead of fretting.

Instead of trying to figure things out on our own.

Instead of talking about the problem to everyone around us.

Instead of posting weird, vague Facebook posts about our struggle.

Instead of a thousand other things.

What if we really took it to God? What if we really prayed? What if we sat quiet and waited for peace?

What if we trusted Him instead of convince ourselves it will always be dreadful?

What if we really did what the Bible said? And lived like we believed it?

Things to ponder.

Here I am …

In the South West. Far, far away from my little loves, my friends, all things familiar. It is crazy exciting (another word for exhausting) and beautiful (another word for gorgeous). But I miss my peeps.

I know God will fill that hole a bit when we are able to get involved and meet people, but they will never take the place of those that have filled my days and years for the past few decades. The laughs, the lessons, the lunches. The troubles, the teasing, the triumphs. The crying, the card games, the communion.

I miss it all.

I knew I would. That doesn’t shock me. But it doesn’t comfort me either.

Life takes turns and twists and we are on one of those (or both) at present. We love thinking about what we have in store. We are enjoying the “putting our new life together” phase. It is odd and fun.

But when I lay my head down at night I see the little faces that made my face light up daily. And my eyes leak.

My three stooges

My three stooges

But I know God will care of them as well. It never was up to me anyway. It’s all Him. And for that I am thankful and mindful to keep that perspective in tact.

I am ready for new experiences, but I hate leaving the old ones so far away. Yes, it is the typical cake-and-eat-it-too syndrome. Full force.

But we do it anyway, because it is what He has told us to do.

For all of you who read this who have been such a prized part of my history, I treasure you.

Are you feeling alone? Even in the midst of loved ones? It happens to everyone. Go to Him. He is there. Comment below with a smiley face, I’ll pray for you. Smiling through the discomfort is sometimes the only way to get to the other side.

Blessing those who have blessed me,

Pat Meyers

When something goes “viral”

What does it mean for something to go “viral”? It means it spread like wildfire through the Internet. Basically that is it, correct?

If that be true … then we should have heard of it, read it, seen it, whatever the case may be.

If that be true … then we would likely have been impacted by it, stirred, inspired, outraged, made aware; again, whatever the case may be.

If that be true … then it should impact our daily life. Continue reading

Remembering Stuff

I love the word stuff. It’s a funny and fun word. It sounds “full.” Not really onomatopoeia, but sort of … if you say it right. And it can relate to anything:

“I have too much stuff.”Stuff2

“I like you and stuff.”

“Wanna go out and do stuff?”

“I’m stuffed!”

You get the idea.

Currently, I am remembering stuff. Memories of our life here in the St. Louis area. People. Moments. Times. Events. Craziness. And stuff. Continue reading
